The piezoelectric method uses tiny crystals in the nozzle that vibrate when introduced to electric current. This process effectively pushes ink out and draws more ink in to the cartridge. The difference between the bubble jet or thermal bubble and piezoelectric method is that the drops of ink that come from a piezoelectric printer are much smaller and allow greater control over the quality of the image than the drops that came from the thermal bubble printer.
Although piezoelectric printers offer for higher image quality, their penetration in the market is much smaller than that of thermal bubble printers because technology used in the production on piezoelectric printers is patented by Epson.
